Oh, so this is that “male privilege” I hear so much about…..
This has nothing to do with whether or not male privilege exists.
Suicide victim rates are higher because men aren’t allowed to be masculine AND talk about their feelings. Bottling up emotions makes them worse, and more likely to commit suicide. This is patriarchy working against males.
Rates of homelessness are higher similarly because men don’t feel like asking for help is an option until they have nothing left. Men who ask for help are seen as weak - another example of the patriarchy working against males.
Workplace fatalities are higher because men typically do the more dangerous jobs. Typical views of the patriarchy include women not being in dangerous positions - they don’t typically even appreciate women in factory jobs. Thus, with dangerous jobs being filled with only men, this is a patriarchal problem. For better or worse.
While the percentage of homicide is mostly male, and that’s terrible, that doesn’t play into the average man’s every day life like it would if it were a counter example of male privilege. If male’s did not have their privilege, they would be afraid to walk the streets at night and not get killed when rates are as high as this. Because of this privilege, men more often than not don’t fear for their lives when walking the streets. To me, this point highlights why male privilege does exist more than why it doesn’t.
Well someone intelligent finally spoke.
